My ancestor, Pvt. James P. Vance of the 3rd Kentucky Infantry (CSA) was mortally wounded on this field.

      Billy,
Hello. Thanks for getting in touch. This project is very much about the deep connections Americans continue to have for these battlefields. Have you been to the battlefield at Shiloh? The battlefield is still very much the wilderness it was in 1862 when your ancestor Pvt. Vance fell there. The image on the website of the “Sunken Road at the Hornets Nest” looks out over Duncan Field to the tree line where the Confederate attacks were formed on April 6th 1862. Standing in this Sunken Road looking out over the Duncan Field one gets a chilling sensation of the intimacy of this enormous battle. Thanks for your interest in the Civil War Pinhole Project. Im off to Virginia in a week or so for a tour of the 1864 Overland Campaign battlefields. Bermuda Hundred, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna River, and Cold Harbor will be explored as well as two sesquicentennial battle reenactments. Please check back in mid May to see these installments to the Project. Sincerely,
      Mike Falco
